Neck Torticollis
Torticollis, also known as “wry neck,” is a condition where the neck muscles contract involuntarily, causing the head to twist or tilt to one side. This condition is often very painful and may come on suddenly or develop over time, depending on the cause.
Common causes include muscle strain, cervical spine abnormalities, or underlying neurological issues. In some cases, torticollis results from sleeping in an awkward position or from muscle spasms following trauma. Patients typically report limited range of motion, stiffness, and visible tilting of the head.
Chiropractors treat torticollis by gently correcting spinal misalignments, reducing muscle spasms, and improving range of motion. In addition to adjustments, treatment may include stretching exercises, heat therapy, and postural guidance. Prompt chiropractic care can significantly reduce discomfort and help restore normal neck movement.
