Lumbar Disc Herniation
Lumbar disc herniation occurs when the soft inner portion of a spinal disc in the lower back pushes out through a tear in the outer ring. This herniation can press on nearby spinal nerves, causing pain, numbness, or weakness in the legs—a condition commonly referred to as sciatica.
The lumbar spine bears much of the body’s weight and is particularly susceptible to disc degeneration over time or injury from lifting or twisting. While some herniated discs may heal with conservative care, others may require more intensive treatment such as spinal decompression or surgery if symptoms do not resolve. See a chiropractor nearby.
