Lumbar Radiculopathy of S1: Signs and Symptoms
Radiculopathy at the S1 level typically causes lower back pain that radiates down the back of the leg and into the sole of the foot. Patients may also report difficulty standing on their toes or a loss of ankle reflex. S1 involvement can significantly affect walking and lower limb strength.
Chiropractic care, physical therapy, and medication often help reduce symptoms and restore lumbar nerve function. In severe cases, imaging may reveal a herniated disc or spinal stenosis pressing on the S1 nerve. Long-term recovery depends on reducing lumbar compression and maintaining spinal alignment.
